New Generation of Mining Professionals Graduate from UMaT’s Advanced Professional Certificate in Mining

The Department of Mining Engineering of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) hosted its second graduation ceremony for the Advanced Professional Certificate in Mining on May 30, 2024.

The ceremony was organized by the Department of Mining Engineering and sponsored by the African Institution of Mining Professionals and Practitioners (AfIMPP). The graduating class consisted of mining professionals who completed the advanced certificate program, designed to equip them with knowledge and skills in mining engineering, safety and sustainability. The program aims to address the challenges and opportunities in the mining industry, particularly in the transition to a greener economy.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from the university, mining industry and the Clergy. The Director of the Program, Prof George Agyei congratulated the graduates on their achievement and emphasized the importance of continuous professional development in the mining industry.
Mr Daniel Tweneboah, General Manager in Charge of Technical Services of Engineers and Planners , also addressed the gathering, highlighting the Department’s commitment to providing high-quality education and training in mining engineering. He encouraged the graduates to apply their knowledge and skills to contribute to the growth and development of the mining industry. The graduates were presented with their certificates by the Program Director and the official from Engineers and Planners, amidst cheers and applause from the audience.

The ceremony also included a special award for the best student, which was presented to Daniel Arthur Bentum for outstanding academic performance. The successful completion of the second graduation ceremony marks a significant milestone for the Advanced Professional Certificate in Mining program, and the Department of Mining Engineering is already preparing for the next intake. Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the next program, which is scheduled to commence soon.
